Tropical Storm & Hurricane Safety

Through the years, our area has endured tropical storms and hurricanes, and every year, during hurricane season, we share local resources for preparedness and emergency services. The NSBAVB propagates information to our prospective visitors and residents, with Volusia County Emergency Services being the official entity assessing risk and damages and offering local resources. Should a storm be predicted for our area, our team will promptly push communications via social media and this website page.

Beach Driving and Parking

Earlier this year, the Volusia County Council voted to waive fees for residents to drive on the beach and to use off-beach County-owned off-beach parking lots. Beginning Oct. 1, Volusia County residents can register their vehicles at www.parkvolusia.org to drive on Volusia County beaches and park in the County’s off-beach parking lots at no charge. The registration portal is also available through the Volusia Beaches app, and a new Park Volusia office in Daytona Beach Shores will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, beginning Oct. 1 at 2422 S. Atlantic Ave. A New Smyrna Beach location will open in the near future. The County will also host in-person events to assist residents from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the following dates:
  • Tuesday, Oct. 1: Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway
  • Thursday, Oct. 3: New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway
  • Monday, Oct. 7: DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.
  • Thursday, Oct. 10: Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
  • Monday, Oct. 14: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.
Nonresidents can also purchase annual passes for beach driving and off-beach parking at www.parkvolusia.org, the Park Volusia Office, the Volusia County Beaches app, and the registration events. Park Volusia resident registrations and annual pass purchases are valid for 365 days. On-beach driving passes purchased between Oct. 1, 2023, and Sept. 26, 2024, will remain valid through expiration. Visit the Park Volusia website for more information, including documentation requirements to register and FAQs.
Both residents and nonresidents can further inquire about the registration process and necessary documentation based on their residency status by contacting Park Volusia’s 24/7 assistance line at 386-260-1482. This hotline will open tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
Existing beach pass holders, both residents and nonresidents, may continue using their current passes at staffed toll booths until expiration. However, once a beach access point converts to a license plate reader, vehicles must be registered with the Park Volusia program, or a gate will not open even with a valid annual pass.
The no-cost parking permit for residents does not cover access fees for Lighthouse Point Park and Smyrna Dunes Park. Residents and visitors must purchase a separate daily or annual inlet park pass. Annual pass purchases for the inlet parks will be available through the same avenues as the beach driving passes; they will also no longer be sold at the booths.
Residents and visitors with verified permanent or temporary disabled parking documentation will continue to receive no-cost access to beach driving, parking in County-owned off-beach lots, and entry to the inlet parks. They are also encouraged to register with the Park Volusia program to facilitate access.
